Healing from Racial Trauma
- Affirmation, acknowledgement, and validation. feelings from both primary and secondary trauma are valid.
- The process of naming. by naming these experiences, we give individuals a voice to speak on them and recognize how they impact them.
- Storytelling and creating safe space for race. create spaces that allow for open and safe dialogue about race and individual experiences. By sharing personal experiences and thinking critically about events in one’s life.
- Externalize and counteract devaluation. focus on increasing respect and recognizing that racial events to not lower their self-worth, and eventually, build self-esteem and counter racial attacks.
